ICT compliments and extends traditional means of learning; it reflects the real world inside…….and out! Have a look at our gallery to see examples of ICT supporting and extending opportunities for children.

Defunct technology gives children opportunities to talk about technology that they see, what it might be for, how it might work and who uses it. Providing defunct technology, and talking and playing with adults and peers around the technology, builds a cultural understanding of the place of technology in the world around them.
IT provides opportunities for developing enquiry, exploration and for following children's interests

Pretend technology can still add greatly to children's role play
IT enables children to play at roles they see in the adult world.

Exploring an Overhead Projector. What happens when I put my hand here? What does this look like?
IT adds to children's possibilities for being creative.

This child has taken on the role of organising turn-taking at the IWB. she has a clipboard and enters children's names then crosses them off as they each take their turn.
IT can support independent learning.

Sharing a talking photo album. Pressing a button to listen to what other children have said about their photos.
IT allows children to record their own personal view of the world.

Children use walkie talkies and mobile phones in their play. These encourage the children to speak and listen to each other as well as adding to their imaginative play.
IT can provide opportunities for children to play with friends, imagine and create.

A keyboard is accessible by all children. Tapping keys produces a great result and gradually learning what some of the buttons do, and how the sounds can be altered, is very satisfying and helps reinforce learning of cause and effect.
IT helps provide equal opportunities for all children.

All kinds of marks can be made with fingers. Look how many dots there are and consider how much this child has enjoyed exploring making marks on the board.
IT supports all areas of learning including communicating, problem solving & developing self esteem.
